With Disney’s Marathon Weekend approaching, safety has been a topic of conversation. So, in an effort to protect guests and cast members, Disney has made some changes to their runDisney costume policy.
New safety measures (including new costume policies) have been put in place in Disney World and one of those new policies reportedly involves the discontinue toy gun sales on property. So, of course, toy guns (or toy weapons of any kind) are not permitted on costumes.
- Costumes may not contain any weapons that resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
There is a complete list of costume regulations on runDisney’s website, but here are some of the rules:
- The costumes must be family-friendly
- No sharp objects on the costumes
- For runDisney Participants 14 and older: Layer costumes are not permitted (Disney’s example is a Jedi robe)
- For runDisney Participants 14 and older: Costume props, including ones that surround the whole body may not be worn (Disney’s examples are Death Star and the UP House).
Of course this is all at Disney’s discretion, so if you have any questions about your costume you might want to just play it safe and change the costume design.
The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend starts tomorrow (January 6, 2016) and goes through Sunday (January 10, 2016).
Are you attending Marathon Weekend?
Thanks for reading!

Can you tell me what large groups, organizations, marathons are going to be at WDW February 20-28, 2016
Hi Laurie!
I know the Princess Half Marathin Weekend will be going on for the first couple of days you are there.
The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival starts a few days after you leave (March 2). So, you might be able to see some of that, if they set up early enough.
The only other thing I know of is tour groups. There is always a chance that tour groups could be there the same time you are.
Hope you have a magical trip!!
