One of the most popular rides on Disney property just closed its doors for a very long refurbishment. It will have gotten a much needed upgrade by the time it reopens, but lots of people traveling are going to be missing one of their favorite rides.
Soarin’ went down for refurbishment on January 4 and it will remain closed until sometime in Summer 2016. Disney has not released a specific reopening date, but I assume they probably won’t until it gets closer to the summer.
While Soarin’ is always a must-see when we are there, I have to agree with others that it was in need of an update. The film that was shown was still the footage from California and, while it was a fun ride, it will be nice to have updated footage.
The new experience will be called “Soarin’ Around the World” and will have footage from around the world. I know some people are upset about the original film being replaced, but I’m excited to “soar” over many fun destinations from around the world.
In addition to the new footage, Disney is also adding a third theater to help with wait times. They are doing the same thing with Toy Story Midway Mania! and adding a third track. Both of these attractions have notoriously long wait times, even during slower days.

Check out the video below (from Disney’s YouTube Channel) and see some of the places that will be in the new footage. It must have been so much fun to fly that helicopter for this project!
