I had heard about the new tiers, but wasn’t able to see them until my FastPass window opened for my August trip. Disney will soon be changing the tiers for Hollywood Studios and it limits the number of thrill rides you can book in advance.
Dates before August 29 still have Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror on the second tier list, which allows for two choices to be picked from the list. However, beginning on August 29 that changes with Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster being added to the first tier with Toy Story Mania!, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Slinky Dog Dash. This means that guests will no longer be able to choose Tower of Terror and/or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in addition to Slinky Dog Dash. Instead, guests will only be able to choose one of those thrill rides for their advanced FastPass pick.
This decision is disappointing guests who may not be as interested in the shows as they are in the rides. You can still book Star Tours from the second tier, but the rest of the choices are shows. Disney has already said that they will not initially be offering FastPasses for the rides in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, so I’m not sure why they changed the tiers.

New Lineup for Hollywood Studios FastPass Tiers (Beginning August 29)
Tier 1
- Alien Swirling Saucers
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Toy Story Mania!
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Tier 2
- Beauty and the Beast-Live on Stage
- Disney Junior Dance Party!
- Fantasmic!
- For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
- Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
- Muppet*Vision 3D
- Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
- Voyage of The Little Mermaid

What do you think of these changes?
Thanks for reading!

Does the lightning mcqueen experience not have wait times rating a fast pass?
(My son will be very happy to ride this on repeat).
As of right now, Disney isn’t offering a FastPass for this show. The theater is pretty big though, so the wait times shouldn’t be too bad.
This is definitely disappointing all around.
First tier rides should only be Toy Story Land. 2nd Tier should be the established thrill rides that have been there for a long while. Then when Galaxy’s Edge and Star Wars Land opens add them to first tier options.
Making it impossible to get rockin roller coaster, tower of terror and slinky dog as the 3 fastpasses is absolutely backsliding on Disney’s part. Who keeps making these decisions??
If it’s so complicated, just go back to the paper fastpasses that were only available once you entered park. 1 at a time and must be inside to get. Lines were so much shorter then!
Kinda disappointed in this all around.
Not happy with this decision. We planned out trip around the early mornings and Galaxy’s Edge opening up. We are Traveling from California to enjoy the new rides and attractions at WDW and don’t have the time to go back to experience them is a major bummer. We arrive on the 6th of September just in time to be disappointed by these decisions.
