Later this year Adventureland in Magic Kingdom is getting a new tavern and it’s name is The Beak and Barrel. With the name, comes a fun story behind this new tavern.
According to the story, a legendary pirate rumrunner named Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn opened this tavern. Along with Merry, guests will get to see her first mate, Rummy the parrot. For those that want to meet Rummy head to “The Mess” where he will be greeting patrons of the bar and keeping on eye on things for Merry while she is away.

“The Mess” is the central part of The Beak and Barrel with long tables so guests can sit together. The story goes that this room used to be the mess hall for Spanish soldiers, hence the name. The lighting above is an impressively big anchor with candles on it. Also in the room is a the bar where guests will find Rummy.

For a different atmosphere, guests can head to the Captains’ Quarters, which was once the living area of the Spanish Comandante. Guests will notice that the artwork and drapery in this room has had its fair share of run-ins with pirates, just check out the slash marks, burn marks, and even faded spots where artwork used to be. On the fireplace are five ships in glass bottles, which represent pirates from different areas of the world working together to defeat tyranny. One fun feature of these bottles is that they “have been known to come alive and engage in fearsome battle.” So make sure to keep your eye on those bottles when visiting the Captains’ Quarters!

Are you excited to experience this new tavern when it opens later this year?
Thanks for reading!
