It was only a matter of time before the Walt Disney Company made this announcement. It’s nice to see such a big company donate like this.
According to Disney Parks Blogs, Disney is going to donate $1 million cash commitments to the OneOrlando Fund. This fund was set up by the Mayor of Orlando to help those that have been affected by the awful events that happened in Orlando this past weekend.
In addition to donating $1 million, they will be matching donations to the fun by Disney employees, dollar for dollar. Disney also designated five areas around their property where cast members and other employees could go to donate blood.
Here is the statement from Disney:
“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act,” said Bob Chapek, chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “With 74,000 Cast Members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”
The events that happened in Orlando were very scary, but the responses from others in the city and people around the country and world have been filled with love. There are stories that Disney Springs was a potential target as well, so it stands to reason that security will most likely be stepped up, if it hasn’t already. Just be patient with whatever new security measures are added. It’s all to keep us safe.
The pictures of cast members and employees from other theme parks making the heart sign are an uplifting sight. The fact that Disney has donated such a large some and is matching donations made by employees is uplifting. The sight of all those people lining up for blocks to donate blood is uplifting.
Remember the good that you have seen after these events. There has been a lot of it and it restores your faith in humanity. #OrlandoStrong
