This isn’t a long post, it’s just a Carousel of Progress appreciation post.
The Carousel of Progress has closed for refurbishment. The last day of operation in the current form was Sunday July 5. Change is inevitable, and I know the Imagineers are going to do a great job with the new scenes. However, it’s safe to say this version will be greatly missed. I know some people think of this as a good place to cool off and maybe take a nap (kidding … I think), but I always enjoyed sitting in the theater and watching this family throughout the years. It’s true, it’s also a good place to get some air conditioning for a bit, which is something else that will be missed until it reopens.
While it’s sad to see this version go, along with the narration from the iconic Jean Shepherd, it will be interesting to see what the new scenes will look like. I know the new scenes will be in 1969, 1980s Halloween, New Year’s Eve/Y2k, and then a look into the future, but I have no idea who they are going to get voice the narration, all I know is I will miss Jean’s narration. Below is a video of the Carousel of Progress. It’s not a professional recording by any means, but it’s the entire show, which I’m glad I recorded so many years ago.
So while we’re going to miss the current version, I think there’s enough room for excitement about the new chapter for this family. What do you think? Are you looking forward to the new scenes?
Thanks for reading!
Liz
