Last week I posted the above picture and asked for guesses as to where it is located. There were some really good guesses, but this one was tough.
The waterfall is located on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom. Specifically, the waterfall is by the area with the Nile hippos. This is a fun attraction, and a favorite among a lot of guests visiting Animal Kingdom. It gives guests the chance to see these animals from a closer proximity. Plus, cast members are full of fun facts for each area. One fact guests learn is that a group of hippos is called a bloat. Another fact given is that a group of giraffes is called a dazzle, which is a little more flattering.
Each time you ride Kilimanjaro Safaris you will see something new. The animals are so fun to watch as they wander the savanna and you never know what you will see or encounter. One time we had a white rhino trotting next to the ride vehicle, which was funny to see, it looked like it was out for a morning jog.
Another time we were halted on the path because a dazzle of giraffes decided to cross in front of the vehicle and stop. Cast members have to wait for the animals to move, so when things like that happen you get a little extra time on the ride. Plus, it’s so impressive to see these animals so close. This was the closest I had been to a giraffe, until booking a giraffe encounter while visiting The Bronx Zoo. That was a great experience and I highly recommend it if you ever visit.
One other fun encounter we had was with an ostrich passing by our ride vehicle. She passed right by on a mission to go up to a cast member’s truck. Once she got there, she stared in the window of the truck, which was funny to see. The cast member giving us the tour explained that the ostrich was looking for food. So there are definitely memorable moments each time you ride. There are many more encounters I could mention, but this one in particular makes me laugh.
This ride has a covered queue, but it still gets hot, even with the fans. So if you can do this in the morning, I would recommend that. Plus, experiencing this ride in the morning usually means the animals are more active. This is especially true for the lion and lionesses, they like to sleep later in the day. So try to get to the safari as early as you can. To get there early, I would start your day in Pandora and then use the pathway to Africa that brings you out by Festival of the Lion King. Not to stray too far off topic, but if Festival of the Lion King isn’t on your list of things to see, it should be. Everything about the show is wonderful. It honestly feels like you are watching a shortened broadway show.
