The new welcome show, ‘Let the Magic Begin’, at the Magic Kingdom started this past Monday. It follows the very beloved Welcome Show which included the Mayor, Mickey Mouse, other characters, and the Family of the Day.
Disney has released a video giving guests a look at what to expect with the new welcome show. I still like the idea of being able to get into the park before it officially opens, but I’m also still missing the welcome show with the train.
The video doesn’t show the whole performance, but you can get an idea of what to expect. It doesn’t appear to include the Mayor anymore, which is a little sad, but they do have a bunch of characters that are in the show. They also kept the fireworks at the end and I was happy to see that, because it’s always fun to start the day with fireworks.
Something else I did not see in the video is the Family of the Day. Again, it’s just clips from the new show, so maybe they still pick a Family of the Day. I hope they do. It was always so much fun to see a family up there with the characters and see the smiles.
It definitely looks like a cute show and it is nice to be closer to the attractions when the park is officially open. Plus, there is more room inside the park (obviously) for people who come for the welcome show. With the old show being at the entrance of the park the crowd could get packed past the bag check area, so having more room is a definite plus.

Hi Laura! That’s weird that it won’t play. I tried to play it and it worked for me. You can try to watch it on YouTube or click on the video link and watch it on Disney Parks Blog. Hope one of those works for you!
It looks terrible. There was something special about the train pulling up to the station with the characters singing. It had myself and others excited right before you walking into main st.

It also looked way more crowed. The last time we did the welcome show we were right up front and there surely was not as many people behind/around us as the video showed when the camera panned out.
There did appear to be a lot of people watching the new show. I’m wondering if they made it a special event to get more people there. The last time I watched the welcome show it was super crowded and their were people waiting past the bag check section. I would have liked it a little less crowded, lol. Hopefully, this show will be okay, but I too am definitely going to miss the welcome show with the train 🙁
