This week’s Snackshot is one of those items that is the perfect vacation indulgence food.
Tonga Toast is a breakfast item that can be found on the menus at Kona Cafe and Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. It’s not what you would call a light breakfast, but it’s a delicious option that’s been available at the Polynesian Village Resort since 1971! It’s a twist on the classic French toast breakfast and is made with thick pieces of sourdough bread. It’s not a small serving, so it’s definitely a filling breakfast.
Tonga Toast is stuffed with bananas, battered with an egg mixture, fried, and coated with cinnamon and sugar. As I said above, it’s really good, but definitely not a light breakfast. When ordered at Kona Cafe, it’s served with a strawberry compote and the flavor mixes very well with the bananas in the Tonga Toast. The prices for this meal differ at Kona Cafe vs. Capt. Cook’s, because the options differ at the two restaurants. At Kona Cafe guests get the strawberry compote and a choice of ham, spiced ham, bacon, or sausage with the meal. At Capt. Cook’s guests do not get the strawberry compote, and have a choice between bacon and sausage only. The cost at Kona Cafe is $16 and the cost at Capt. Cook’s is $9.29.
Earlier this year, when the parks were shutdown, Disney started sharing a bunch of popular recipes. Tonga Toast was one of those recipes and they shared a video to show how to make this popular breakfast item, so we could all make it at home if we wanted.
Hope you enjoyed this week’s Snackshot! Have you ever had the Tonga Toast at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort?
