There was a question when Rafiki’s Planet Watch first closed as to whether or not it would be reopening, which upset some guests. So there was certainly some welcome news today as Disney announced it will be reopening this summer.
A reopening date has not be specified, but it is good to know that it will be reopening. Guests will once again be able to take the Wildlife Express train from the Africa section of Animal Kingdom to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. The train ride is around 7 minutes and it’s a nice way to get a peek at some of the backstage areas with the animals.
When Rafiki’s Planet Watch reopens this summer guests will see some of the same experiences as well as some new ones. Animal encounters will still be a part of this area and it sounds like there will still be information about animal care and conservation, judging by Disney’s announcement. Plus, there will be a new celebration of “The Lion King” at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, which will (I’m sure) fit in nicely.
Personally, I’m happy they are reopening Rafiki’s Planet Watch. We always have fun taking the train there and wondering around for a bit. It’s a nice way to escape the crowds of the main part of the park. Plus, it’s always fun to see the animals!
Are you excited that Rafiki’s Planet Watch is reaopening?
Thanks for reading!

Great news but we were hoping for a spring opening. We’ll be there end of April/first of May. My kids will hate missing both this train and the Magic Kingdom train. Oh well, always next year!
