As part of the projects going on in Disney World, some things will be closing permanently. Disney has released the last day of operations for these attractions.
Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat will close for good on July 7 of this year. So for those that are a fan of these attractions, and will be in Disney World in the next month, these attractions should be on the list of things to see. Disney is building the new Cars area where those two attractions are located.
The new Cars area is called Piston Peak National Park, where “cars from around the country are fueling up to be the wildest racer in the wheelderness.” Disney is describing the area as an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with tower trees, snowcapped mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and geysers. The new area is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area, which is shown in the artist depiction below.

Some things guests can expect to see when this land opens are the visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, trails, and more. While this will be different from Cars Land in Disneyland, it will still be very much within the Disney and Pixar “Cars” universe. Disney said it is using “Parkitecture,” which is a term used by the National Park Service. The term means the structures are created to harmonize with the natural environment. Check out the video below and see how imagineers are getting inspiration for the off-rally road race that will be the big draw in Piston Peak National Park.
