The second day in Disney World was a busy one for us. We saw and experienced quite a bit.
Our day started with breakfast at Boma – Flavors of Africa at Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is one of my favorite places to have breakfast. The food is really good and the atmosphere is really nice. Plus, after you finish your meal you can step outside and see the animals that roam around the hotel.
The breakfast offers something for everyone. So if you have adventurous eaters in your party, as well as those that like to stick to the basics (like eggs, pancakes, etc.), no to worry, everyone will be able to leave the restaurant feeling full.
After breakfast we headed over to Animal Kingdom. This was Maureen’s first time at Animal Kingdom, so a cast member gave her a 1st Visit button for her first visit to Animal Kingdom. After purchasing a hat (I forgot mine and I burn easily), we headed to the entrance to scan our MagicBands.
Once inside we waited in line to get our picture taken in front of the Tree of Life, but while we were waiting we were treated to a show. A couple of cast members were near by and they were accompanied by a bunch of Macaws. And when I say accompanied, I mean they flew right over our heads to the perch, it was very cool!
Other highlights from Animal Kingdom were seeing Festival of the Lion King (my favorite show on property), getting to see Pandora again (without opening day crowds), and riding Na’vi River Journey with a FastPass (I waited 90 minutes on opening day). Maureen had a fun time and was happy she finally got to see Animal Kingdom.
After Animal Kingdom we headed to Hollywood Studios (so much construction!), because we had an early dinner reservation at 50’s Prime Time Cafe. I love the Prime Time Cafe and hadn’t been there in 10 years, so I was excited. Maureen had never been there, so she couldn’t wait to see it for the first time. We were not disappointed. The experience was so much fun and the cast members were fantastic in their roles as family members. They bickered, told us to sit up straight, told us not to talk with our mouths full, and to keep our elbows off the table. Love that place!
Once dinner was over, we headed outside to check out the Christmas decorations around Echo Lake. The new decorations are beautiful! It’s hard for pictures to really do it justice. We also loved that they included Gertie in the decorations, she has a Santa hat on her head and an ornament in her mouth. There are also ornaments floating in the late and a collection of three big ornaments by the big Christmas tree in the middle of the lake. The 1940s style gas light Christmas decorations are really cute too. The style reminds me of stuff that my grandmother had and I love that nostalgic feeling.
Also while at Hollywood Studios we stopped in at Walt Disney Presents to see the models for Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. While there we were surprised to see that the line for Star Lord and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy was very short, so we hopped in line. I can’t recommend this experience enough! Star Lord was so funny interacting with baby Groot and baby Groot is seriously the cutest thing ever.
Another fun thing we tried was the Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam! Dessert Party. Included with the party is a chance to meet Goofy, a dessert buffet, drinks, an ornament, and special VIP viewing of Disney Movie Magic and Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam! I had never done a dessert party, so it was fun to finally experience one. A full review will be coming up soon.
Before leaving the park, we were able to catch Flurry of Fun, which is something new to Hollywood Studios this year. It runs from sundown until the park closes on Sunset Boulevard. It includes projections on Tower of Terror, music, videos on the digital billboards, “snow,” and lighted Christmas decorations flashing in sync to the music. It’s such a fun addition to the night experiences at Hollywood Studios. I definitely recommend sticking around Hollywood Studios to see it!
After getting back from the parks we decided to explore our resort a little more. Caribbean Beach is a fun resort, but be warned that there is a lot of construction going on right now. We made our way to the pool, so we could check out the theme. This is a very photogenic pool. If you are staying at Caribbean Beach Resort then you should definitely make your way to the main pool.
Thanks for following along with our Disney World adventures! Today we are headed to Magic Kingdom and starting with breakfast at The Wave.
Thanks for reading!
