Happy National Twilight Zone Day! In honor of the day I thought we could take a look at one of the popular rides in Hollywood Studios.
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a free fall ride located at the end of Sunset Boulevard. It’s so tall that you can see it see it from a good distance. When we stayed at the Boardwalk Villas we could actually see it from our room. It was a pretty awesome view, especially when some hot air balloons were floating by the tower.
Tower of Terror (TOT) is designed after the popular Twilight Zone TV show and the theme is well done throughout the whole attraction. This is one of my favorite queue lines. I’m not a fan of free fall rides anymore, but I’m tempted to ride TOT every time we are in Hollywood Studios just to see the queue line. It’s very detailed and you see new details every visit.
After you make your way through the queue line you will be in the basement and waiting to board a very old looking elevator. Once it’s your turn to board the ride vehicle and all the guests are seated and buckled, a cast member will lock the ride and send you on your way.
That’s when it begins to move and you rise up to where you will see images of guests from the hotel that appeared in a video you watched before you boarded. After the images disappear the ride vehicle starts to move forward (instead of continuing up) on a different set of tracks. Now you just wait for those doors to open.
When the doors open you will have a pretty amazing view of Hollywood Studios, but you might be too scared to take it all in. This is the part where the ride will start dropping and lifting and dropping and lifting, until the ride is over. Since the drop sequence is decided by a computer, guests have no idea how many times they will be dropped or how high they will be lifted each time.
Here’s a video from Disney Parks which shows highlights from the ride:
This is definitely a great ride for thrill seekers, but it’s not just about the thrills. In true Disniey fashion there is a story attached to the attraction that is carried throughout the entire experience.
Have you ever been on Tower of Terror?
Thanks for reading and Happy National Twilight Zone Day!
