Another rumor was confirmed to be true at the D23 Parks and Resorts Panel yesterday at the D23 Expo. It is shaping up to an exciting time at Disney World!
At the panel yesterday Disney announced two new transportation options that will be added to Disney World property. It looks like Disney is trying to give guests more options and to relieve some of the issues with wait times for the bus system. Here is a look at the new options
Gondola System: Disney Skyliner
Not too long ago there was a rumor circulating that Disney World was going to be getting a gondola transportation option. Disney has now announced that this rumor is true! Just as the rumor speculated, the new gondola system will connect Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Caribbean Beach to Hollywood Studios and Epcot’s International Gateway. Plus, a lot of the gondolas will be decorated with Disney characters.
This new transportation system will be called the Disney Skyliner. I’m really excited to see this when it is completed. I have two concerns though. My first concern is that it is going to increase the price at two Value Resorts and one of the Moderate Resorts, but we will have to wait and see. My second concern is that this is going to increase the traffic at the International Gateway quite a bit. One of the bonuses of staying at an Epcot Resort is having that entrance to use and having it not be nearly as crowded as the front entrance.
Minnie Van Service
The second transportation option that was announced is going to be a point-to-point transportation service, which people are comparing to an Uber-like service. The vehicles are designed after Minnie Mouse’s signature look. They look really cute and are clearly Disney vehicles.
This is another great way to cut down the wait time for buses. In Disney’s article there is no price mentioned, though I’m hearing rumors that the cost will be $20 per trip.
Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, talked about guest expectations when he announced the new transportation system.
“Since we’re all about exceeding guest expectations and making every aspect of your vacation uniquely Disney, we’re creating a new point-to-point transportation service in a way that only Disney can do.”
These new options sound like they will help to relieve some of the transportation issues on property. We will keep you posted as more information is released, such as opening dates and prices for the Minnie Van Service.
What do you think of these new transportation options?
