Yesterday I posted the picture above and asked for guesses as to where the horseshoe marks might be located. Quite a few people were able to pinpoint where they are!
The horseshoe marks in the picture are located by the queue line for the Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom. I was exiting the ride when I took the picture and you can see one of the posts that’s part of the queue line on the right side of the picture. Congratulations to all who got it right!
The Haunted Mansion is one of Disney’s classic rides. It’s a ride that is usually on people’s must-see list for each trip. The fun, believe it or not, starts in the queue line. There are some great interactive areas in the line that guests can experience.
Interactive Queue Line Experiences
- The Musical Crypt – Guests can tap the embossed musical instruments on the crypt and her a haunting tune.
- Sepulcher of the Sea Captain – Hear the Captain sing a long-lost tune from inside his tomb. Watch out for the water leaks!
- Tomb of the Posthumous Poetess – See words inexplicably appear on the poetess’s tome.
- The Secret Library – Guests can push in books that pop out of the this haunted bookcase. This includes a cryptogram that guests can decipher.
One of my favorite parts of this ride happens before you even get into your “Doom Buggy.” It’s in the Portrait Room, also known as the stretching room; I love all the pictures. The pictures, of course, are not what they seem when you first see them. When the room starts stretching you see the true pictures: the woman with the parasol is standing over a crocodile on a tightrope, the woman posing with a rose is sitting on her husband’s grave (who seems to have died from an ax to the head), a man on the shoulders of another man who is on the shoulders of another man who is quickly sinking in quicksand, and a man who appears to be nicely dressed is not wearing pants and is standing on a keg of lit dynamite. The stretching room definitely reveals a different picture than what guests assume when they first see the portraits.
*Tip – If you want to be one of the first to get out of the room and to the Doom Buggies then stand under the portrait of the woman with the parasol.
After the stretching room you will follow the flow of the crowd to the Doom Buggy loading area. This is one of Disney’s constant moving rides, so there is a moving sidewalk that you have to step on to get to your Doom Buggy. The Ghost Host that spoke to guests in the stretching room continues to speak throughout the ride as you enter different areas in the house. There are 15 different rooms in the house that guests will be dragged…I mean brought to during this experience.
Some of the Rooms Are:
- The Portrait Room (aka the stretching room)
- The Library
- The Ballroom
- The Conservatory
- The Attic
- The Graveyard
Some of the more well-known of the 999 haunts (remember, there’s room for 1,000) are the Ghost Host, The Hatbox Ghost, Madame Leota, The Ballroom Ghosts, and The Hitchhiking Ghosts. All of the ghosts (minus the Ghost Host) you will see throughout your tour of the Haunted Mansion. At the end of the ride you will get a visit from a ghost in your Doom Buggy. Some are a bit mischievous, so keep an eye out for this as you near the unloading area for the ride.
One more note about the Haunted Mansion, the Cast Members are awesome. Every Cast Member I have come in contact with there has played their part perfectly and added to the fun of the ride experience!
Congratulations to all who got this week’s Where is it Wednesday correct! I’ll post another one next Wednesday.
Did you get it right?
Thanks for reading!
