Disney made the decision a while back to take out the bride auction scene in this classic ride. They decided to replace it with a different auction scene that uses a famous face from the previous scene.

2018 Will See a Change for Pirates of the Caribbean
News broke today of a change to a very popular Disney attraction. In fact, it’s the attraction that was the last to have its construction overseen by Walt Disney himself.
New App Helps You Show Your Disney Side
Ready to have some selfie fun? Disney has come out with a new app that will help you show your Disney Side.
The app gives you a choice of 3 Frozen characters, 3 Star Wars characters, and 3 Pirates of the Caribbean characters. There are also 3 Haunted Mansion characters to choose from, but you have to either visit Disney World/Disneyland or share 3 of your selfie Disney Side pictures on Facebook or Twitter for them to unlock.
My daughter and I played around with the pictures and it’s a really cute app! I’m not so sure about the Elsa option though. I think because of how her dress is designed and the way her hair is, it’s hard to get a good picture without your own shirt or hair showing. Either way, my daughter loved that her picture turned into Elsa.
Some of the features of the app:
- It’s animated. Yep, your picture will actually move. Your head moves and your eyes blink. (Very Harry Potter-esque)
- There are different frames and costumes to choose from, depending on the characters. Some characters (like Elsa and Kristoff) only have one costume.
- If you slide your finger around the screen the your picture will follow your finger. The head and eyes move in the direction you slide your finger.
- You can move the costumes around and pinch them to make them smaller, for a better “fit.”
- When you slide your finger across certain pictures it will leave a trail related to that character. For instance, when you slide your finger over Elsa’s picture there is a trail of snow and ice. Some have sound too, see the video below.
- You can share a video or a picture of your Disney Side character.
One other thing I noticed is that if you take a picture of a picture, it will still work. I tried it with a picture of myself, instead of taking a traditional selfie, and it still recognized the face. However, if you are not standing or sitting straight in the original picture, then the Disney Side picture will end up tilted, but it’s still fun.

Here are some I played around with. I love the video!

The Ultimate Day for Young Families VIP Tour
Disney Parks Blog has given us a peek into one of the new VIP tours that are being offered in Disney World. The Ultimate Day for Young Families VIP Tour started at the Tomorrowland Terrace in Magic Kingdom was the starting point for the tour.
Throughout the day they experienced lots of fun attractions including Pirates of the Caribbean, Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, and Toy Story Mania. While they were in Hollywood Studios they had lunch at a reserved table (lunch orders are taken at the start of the tour). They ended the tour with front row seats at Festival of the Lion King in Animal Kingdom.
In all, the writer, Russ J. Stacey, said they enjoyed 11 attractions in 3 parks. Plus, they got some fun trivia and information along the way. He also said, despite the name, it’s not just for families with little kids. The tour guide told him that plenty of people take the tour with no kids, just the adults.
The cost of the tour is $299 per person (theme park admission not included), it lasts six to seven hours, and is offered on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Breaking: Pirates of the Caribbean to Close for Extended Refurb
The big news today is that Pirates of the Caribbean will be closed for the entire summer, Disney’s busiest season. If you have been following stories and complaints about the ride over the past few months, it’s not much of a surprise.
After one guest had the tips of his fingers cut off, because his hand was hanging outside of the boat, Disney did not load the last section in each boat, which led to other problems. It sounds like they have found some safety issues with the new boats and that is the reason for the extended refurb.
Not only that, but guests have been complaining that the ride is splashing them more on the big drop. You never really got soaked on Pirates before, but that was not the case recently. Guests were leaving the ride pretty drenched, especially those that sat in the front of the boat.
The extensive closure with go from May 11-September 25.
