According to Andrea Finger, Director of Communications for Disney, the Special Olympics Flame of Hope was carried through Epcot yesterday for the Unified Relay Across America. This is a first time event and hundreds of cast members as well as guests cheered and encouraged the volunteers carrying the torch.
After the torch made its way through Epcot it made its way to Disney’s Boardwalk Inn where the ceremonial lighting took place.
The stop in Disney World was one of many that will be happening over the 46 days of the course as the torch gets passed. The torch will be passed through all 50 states and will end in Los Angeles at the opening ceremonies for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games.
Disney is one of the sponsors for the Special Olympics World games and ESPN will be covering the highlights. This is a nine-day event and the Opening Ceremony will be on July 25.
