Since the second month of the release for the Minnie Mouse: Main Attraction collection it’s been hard for collectors to beat the bots to the merchandise. It got so bad that Disney stopped the release for a bit and came back with their MerchPass idea.
The way the MerchPass works is anyone can sign up on the days specified. The next MerchPass is open on 8/11 starting at 7 am (PST) and ends at 11:59 (PST) the same day. When you sign up for the MerchPass you are able to choose which items you would like to purchase. The catch is that this is a lottery, there is no guarantee you will be picked. I’ve heard that some people who signed up right when the sign up window opened didn’t get a MerchPass for anything. So I don’t believe there is any rhyme or reason to why some people get picked and some don’t. The system seems to be very random. However, it also didn’t stop these items from ending up on eBay for hundreds of dollars more than their sale price, which is unfortunate.
This time around, I was lucky with the MerchPass. While I did not get chosen for the ears, I did get a MerchPass for the plush. Something to keep a lookout for is a second round of MerchPass emails. A few days after the initial email, I received a second email for the mug MerchPass. Some items had not been claimed in time, so Disney was able to do a second round of emails. Keep that in mind if you don’t get an email in the first round.
If I’m being honest, this process isn’t great either. In my opinion, it would be better to make these available for preorder and take away the whole “Limited Edition” label, because that’s what makes the scalpers want to grab as many as possible to resell for ridiculous and disgusting price increases. Considering how many people would purchase items for their collection, it’s confusing why Disney doesn’t do a preorder option. I don’t know the ins and outs of the production of these items, but if people are willing to pay for an item I would think that would make it worth it, but who knows. I’ve only been able to get one out of the six ears and refuse to pay the absurd prices on EBay, so I’ve started collecting the mugs.
In case you are collecting either the mugs or the plush, and are considering purchasing them from eBay or another site, I’ve included some closeup pictures.
Peter Pan’s Flight Mug
The Minnie Mouse Peter Pan’s Flight Plush
Peter Pan’s Flight is series 6 of 12 in the collection. The next theme is King Arthur Carrousel and the MerchPass will be open starting tomorrow (8/11) at 7 am (PST). This is an online exclusive, so unfortunately it won’t be available in the Disney Stores.
Did you get a MerchPass for any of the Peter Pan’s Flight items?
Thanks for reading!
