It’s no secret that there are lots of things to do inside the Disney theme parks, but did you know there are also lots of activities available at the resort hotels? Which means you can have fun without even entering the parks.
One activity offered at some resort hotels is perfect for this time of year. Horse-drawn carriage rides are a nice way to relax and enjoy your surroundings. During the month of December Disney even offers a very festive horse-drawn sleigh ride. What better way to get in the holiday spirit than a ride in a sleigh?
You can find the sleigh rides at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The rides happen nightly in December every half hour from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., last about 25 minutes, and cost $79 per ride (not per person). The sleigh can fit 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 small children. Since the sleigh ride is only offered in the month of December, Disney highly recommends calling ahead to make reservations. The sleigh rides depart from the main entrance of Crockett’s Tavern.
For regular horse-drawn carriage rides you can stay at Fort Wilderness or head over to Port Orleans Riverside (POR). During our stay at POR we saw the horse-drawn carriages going up and down the Sassagoula River and on some of the paths in the resort. Check in for the carriage rides at POR is at the Riverside Levee Marina. Over at Fort Wilderness the regular carriage rides travel around the paths that are lined with pine trees and cypress trees. The rides cost $45 per ride. Reservations for the horse-drawn carriage rides can be made 180 days in advance.
The carriage rides definitely look like a lot of fun and something my family would enjoy!
Have you ever been on one of Disney’s horse-drawn carriage rides?
