The opening ceremony is something that everyone should see and be a part of at least once. It’s a great way to open the Magic Kingdom and brings a tear the eye of many guests, but starting January 9 the opening ceremony will be very different.
According to Disney Parks Blog, guests will now be allowed inside Magic Kingdom before it opens! And we’re not just talking about having to stay at the front of the park, you will be able to walk down Main Street U.S.A., grab some goodies and caffeine at the Main Street Bakery, and head to the Castle Forecourt Stage for a new way to open Magic Kingdom park.
I have to admit, I’m going to miss the opening ceremony with the train coming in will a bunch of beloved characters on board. However, the idea of being allowed in the park before it opens and being closer to the attractions once the park is officially open sounds very appealing.
Another bonus is that there is more room by the castle, so you probably won’t feel as squished in. Depending on when they start letting people in, I would get to the park an hour to 90 minutes before the official park opening time. That way you have time to go through security, get through ticket check, stop at the Main Street Bakery, and make it to the castle with enough time to get a good spot.
The new welcome show will feature a Royal Herald who will appear to deliver a proclamation. And don’t worry, the characters will still be part of the show. Favorite Disney characters will be welcomed to the stage, helping to officially open the park.
The new welcome show starts on January 9.
Who else is excited for this new show?
Thanks for reading!

Definitely is not the anticipated opening most of us love….. Sounds more like a show now?
I’m hoping it will be a little more than a show, but I’m with you I love the opening ceremony with the train. Fingers crossed we don’t lose any magic with the new show!
Whatever new opening is, it’s hard to imagine they will achieve the warm and fuzzy feeling of joy the current opening has always given. There are lots of shows to see so hopefully this will be more than a show.
I hope so too, D’Ana!
