Guests Will Soon be Able to Purchase Lightning Lane Passes Ahead of Time

Disney recently announced that the Lightning Lane system will be changing soon. In less than a month, on July 24, guests will be able to pre-purchase the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and/or the Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Disney is bringing back a little planning with the Lightning Lane system, kind of like what we had with FastPass+ (just not complimentary). With FastPass+ Disney Resort hotel guests could book 60 days in advance, which was nice but pretty far out from the arrival date. With this new Lightning Lane system guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel can purchase and book 7 days out from their arrival date. So while guests cannot book quite as far out, the passes can still be purchased ahead of time, which is definitely a plus. Like the FastPass+ system, guests can book up to three rides in advance.

Lighting Lane Multi Pass

The Lighting Lane Multi Pass will have the same rides that the Genie+ list had. However, the rides will be broken into two groups. Group one allows you to pick one ride from the list, group two will allow you to pick 2 rides, or if you do not pick a ride from group one, you can pick three rides from group two.

This park only has one group to choose from, so guests can pick up to three rides from this list.

These are the rides in each park that are currently on the Individual Lighting Lane list. So it’s the same, guests can just book ahead of time starting July 24.

• Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Hollywood Studios

• Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Other important Information

• Once a selection is used, guests can book another one (much like how the FastPass+ system worked).
• Disney Resort hotel guests will be able to purchase and book their selections starting 7 days before their arrival date for their entire stay (up to 14 days).
• Other guests not staying at a Disney hotel will be able to purchase and book 3 days before their visit.
• Guests can purchase both the Multi Pass and the Single Pass or they can purchase one or the other.
• When booking the ride selections, guests will also be picking a time to ride (again, much like the old FastPass+ system).
• The price for each pass will vary depending on the date and theme park for the Multi Pass, and depending on the date and ride for the Single Pass.
• The Multi Pass selections can be different among those in your group. So when planning your day in the park not everyone has to do the same rides if they do not want to.
• If guests have the Park Hopper option added to their ticket then they may make selections in different parks, if they wish to do so.
• Once this new system is live, guests can view their Lightning Lane selections on the My Disney Experience app. These will be available under the Lighting Lane Passes section on the home screen and will allow you to view your selections and modify them (if there is availability).
• Lightning Lane passes are nonrefundable.
• Guests who can make reservations 7 days in advance:
  • Disney Resort Hotels
  • Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels (including Swan Reserve)
  • Shades of Green
• Annual Passholders and guests with tickets that are not date-based tickets can purchase passes within the 3-day purchase window.
