The Villas and Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in Disney World have been open for a bit. The non-DVC rooms were scheduled to reopen on October 4. However that date was already moved once from the original reopening date of August 22. Now, the reopening date is much further away.
Disney announced earlier today that the Polynesian Village Resort will now open next summer in 2021. The delay means the non-DVC part of the hotel will be closed for over a year by the time it reopens, which is not something I would have ever thought would happen. Disney is adjusting the schedule to all allow for scheduled refurbishment work to take place. The refurbishment includes enhancements to the Great Ceremonial House and guest rooms. Work is expected to begin in early October.
But, wait, there’s more! Additional Polynesian Village news includes more information about the enhancements. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the refurbishment will include a theme of the popular movie “Moana.”
Quoted from the article on the Orlando Sentinel:
“A Disney World spokeswoman on Monday said changes to the rooms will include a move to a Pacific Ocean-inspired color palette as well as details, patterns and textures from Disney’s “Moana,” an animated film that takes place partly on the Polynesian island of Motunui.”
Guests currently booked at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort can give Disney a call about moving their reservation to a new resort. Disney should also be sending out a letter about the delayed opening, so look for that. Guests will not receive any additional charges for moving reservations from the Polynesian to another resort.

Lots of news coming out of the Polynesian today! I have to say, I’m kind of excited to see the designs for the Moana theme of the rooms. What about you? As more information is released about the “Moana” theme coming to the Polynesian I’ll let you know.
Thanks for reading!

Would love a Moana meet and greet at the Polynesian, somewhere that you don’t have to pay/have a ticket to meet a character, just for a change.
Love this idea, Lisa! That would be an awesome addition to a Poly visit.
I am one of the guests who was notified about their April 2021 trip. Have to admit, very disappointed. They did move my reservation to Grand Floridian, which I am sure will be great, but nothing like the Poly. Hope the renovation turns out awesome.
Aw I’m sorry Marisa. 🙁 The Grand Floridian is beautiful, but vibe is a bit different from the Poly. At least they’re building that walkway to Magic Kingdom, so you can always take a nice stroll around the lagoon. 🙂
