Disney rumors pop up all the time. Sometimes the rumors turn out to be true and other times not so much. It looks like this latest rumor my have some weight to it.
The reason I say that it might have some weight to it is because it’s gaining traction among blogs and media websites like Popsugar.com. The rumor is that the same type of lightcycle roller coaster that is in Shanghai Disney will replace the Tomorrowland Speedway in Magic Kingdom in Disney World. The slow moving car ride is an attraction that opened with the park in 1971. It gives kids the chance to “drive” a car around a track. The cars only go about 7 miles an hour, but it’s a favorite ride among a lot of kids.
I’d be a little surprised if they remove a ride for little kids and replace it with something for older kids and adults. However, the TRON Lightcycle Power Run has proven to be very popular in Disney’s newest park and I know a lot of people that were very excited when they heard this rumor.
While this may be strong rumor, Disney has not actually announced anything official yet. The thought is that it will be announced at the D23 Expo coming up this weekend. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of things revealed this weekend at the expo. We will certainly be watching it for news.
I’d be a little sad to see the Tomorrowland Speedway go, but I would also be excited for something new.
Here’s a YouTube video of the TRON Lightcycle Power Run from Shanghai Disney:
It looks like a pretty fun ride. We’ll have to wait and see what is announced this weekend to find out if the rumors are true.
What do you think, would you be happy for this change or do you want Tomorrowland Speedway to stay?
