Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has been undergoing some updating lately and part of that includes the rooms. Some of the rooms are getting a themed makeover and using the movie “Moana” as a design influence.
The rooms have the same vinyl wood flooring that all of Disney’s recently renovated rooms have received. As for the decor, it’s easy to spot the “Moana” influence, pretty much anywhere you look in the room. Some of the patterns on the wall are straight from the movie, you’ll definitely be able to spot characters from the movie. The colors included in this redesign are tropical and match the bedding and other decor items in the room. Pictures in the room are from the movie, as well, so this room is great for any “Moana” fan.

A fun detail that Disney shared about the redesign talks about the bathrooms in these rooms. The Imagineers used tiles on the floor and carved details in the vanity to represent the ocean floor and “evoking undulating ocean waves and tropical flowers.” Below, you can see the tiles in the picture Disney shared.

Disney also shared a picture of the Great Ceremonial House with the additions Disney is currently adding. These additions include a high-pitched, open-truss roof that will be covered in a thatch style and have pops of color.

Guests can now book the Polynesian Village Resort for late July 2021 and beyond. Hopefully this means that some of the dining that is still closed at the Poly will be opening soon too. I know a lot of people, myself included, are missing ‘Ohana!
Are you excited to see these new changes happening at the Polynesian Village Resort?
Thanks for reading!

Hi! I can’t wait to see the changes! I have a room booked the end of August. I noticed you mentioned some rooms have been updated but I was told all of them are. I hope that is true because I was there in 2019 and was a little disappointed. I loved the hotel but was disappointed in the outdated and worn decor in the rooms. Any hotel that charges that much for even a standard room really should be updated to help justify the price. I’m sure they will do a magical job!
Hi MissyJ!
All the rooms are being refurbed, which is good because I agree that they needed some freshening up. I’m just not sure how many are going to have the Moana theme, most likely it will be all the studios, but Disney didn’t specify in their announcement when they shared these pictures.
I hope you have an amazing time in August! 🙂
