For those that want to be in Disney World, but can’t, there is a way to (sort of) feel like you are there. The new big thing is virtual reality (VR) and there are lots of Disney World virtual reality videos.
Of course, the quality of the videos depends on the type of camera people use, but the new 360 cameras are becoming a popular item to bring to Disney World. With the 360 cameras the user is able to capture video from all around them, hence the title of the camera. So when you view the video you are actually able to turn your head and look around and see everything around you, as if you are actually there.
A while back my husband bought a Star Wars VR cardboard from Google and everyone had fun with it. So when I saw a heavier quality set with a head band on sale, I thought he might like it for Christmas. It’s been a hit with family and friends. In fact, just last night our friends (and co-creators of the Countdown for Disney App) were over and everyone was playing with both the VR sets.
You can use Google Street View to look at places, but the real fun started when we discovered the VR Disney World videos. It’s fun putting on the VR set and looking all around at the different rides. I loved the Hollywood Tower of Terror video, because I was able to look around more than usual and noticed things I had not seen before. That happened with most of the Disney VR videos.
While the quality may not be the greatest, it’s still fun to watch the videos with the VR set and pretend you are there. Some of the videos feel a little close and can make you feel dizzy, but if you close one eye it’s a little better. This happened with a Splash Mountain video I watched.
You don’t need the VR sets to watch the 360 videos though. You can watch those on your phone or tablet. It’s still cool to move around and look at all the details you might miss when you are there on vacation.
Whichever way you watch the 360 videos it’s fun to see Disney World when you are not there. Just do a search for Disney VR on Youtube.
Have you tried to visit Disney World virtually?
