Very sad news to report today. A TSA Officer has died after jumping off a balcony.
According to the Orlando Police Department, the officer jumped from a Hyatt Regency Hotel balcony around 9:30 this morning. The hotel is located in an atrium inside the Orlando International Airport. The police department confirmed the officer’s death as well.
At 9:30 a.m., an individual jumped from the Hyatt Regency Hotel into the atrium area of the airport. A male in his 40s was found in critical condition and transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Preliminary information suggests an apparent suicide.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, when the incident happened passengers who had not yet passed through the screening process ran into the area that is meant only for those that have been screened. So, all passengers had to go the screening process, some for a second time, just to make sure everyone was screened.
The airport is working hard to get everything back on track and the Orlando PD is asking that everyone be patient with airport works as they are dealing with the loss of a colleague. The police department also assured the public that this is an isolated incident.

The affected area deals with gates 70 through 129. If you are flying out today or you know someone who is and would like to know the status of the flight, you can check the status on the airport’s website under Flight Status. Southwest seems to be the most affected by this.
