One of the rides that’s been under construction for quite some time in Epcot is getting closer to an opening date. Disney announced previously that the ride would be opening in 2022, but now we know it will open sometime in summer 2022. So even though we still don’t have an opening date, it’s been narrowed down a bit.
During the Destination D23 event the news was announced by Josh D’Amaro, the Disney Parks Experiences and Products Chairman. To help with the announcement, Disney called on Glenn Close, who will be reprising her role as Nova Prime, the leader of Xandar and commander of the Nova Corps.
Guardians of the Galaxy Video Announcement from Glenn Close
This new experience will include information about the Xandarians and the technologies they use, which they’ve brought to us on Earth (Terra). The Galaxarium will have a planetarium-type presentation about their world. So guests will learn about their people, culture, and history. Also included in the presentation, of course, are the Guardians of the Galaxy. The premise of the ride is that guests will be working with the Guardians and will go on an adventure through time and space to save the galaxy.
New renderings for the experience and a teaser image were also released. In the teaser image you can see the ride vehicle, which is different from any other ride vehicles. This roller coaster is a storycoaster and it rotates 360 degrees so guests can see all around during the ride. In addition to the new ride vehicles, this coaster will also feature a reverse launch and it’s going to be one of the longest indoor roller coasters in the world.
It’s nice to be getting closer to an opening date. Hopefully the next announcement will include an exact opening date. Then we can all start planning our first ride on this attraction. EPCOT has some good ride experiences, but I think this coaster will be a welcome addition. It will be nice to have another thrill ride to choose from in that park, especially for those that are fans of this movie. Disney World may not be able to have a full on Marvel land, but at least we’re getting a little taste of it!
Who else is looking forward to this ride opening?
Thanks for reading!
