An unexpected announcement came during Epcot’s 35th anniversary. We already knew that a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction was on its way, but now we have some more information.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Epcot VP Melissa Valiquette made an announcement during her speech at the anniversary celebration. The big announcement was that the attraction will be a roller coaster. She said construction has been going on inside at the former location of Ellen’s Energy Adventure, adding that guests will see more signs of construction in the next few months in the park.
Currently, there is no opening date that has been announced for Guardians of the Galaxy, but it’s encouraging to know that the construction has started. Epcot does not currently have a roller coaster, so this is good news for a lot of guests. The closest thing to a roller coaster in Epcot would be Test Track. So, this will add another thrill ride to the attraction list.
The addition of a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction was met with mixed reactions. Some are glad to see Epcot getting some attention and getting a refresh. However, others are do not want to see another movie attraction in Epcot.
What do you think about the addition of a Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster?
Thanks for reading!

Speaking for myself, I think this is a great idea. Epcot needed more attractions, and Guardians deserved its own attraction.
I’m with you on Epcot needing more attractions. I think it helps that this is going in Future World and not World Showcase. It’s going to be nice to have a roller coaster option in Epcot! 🙂
I’m glad to see guardians isn’t taking over tower of terror!! I love tower of terror but I’m glad they are getting their own ride!
I was afraid of that too, Lori! Glad it didn’t happen. 🙂
Have y’all ridden the GotG Mission Breakout ride? It’s AMAZING! SO much better than ToT, even though I do love that ride’s theming, the ride itself falls short in comparison to GotG. Having said that, I’m happy WDW is keeping the original ToT and adding a coaster to Epcot. I will miss the UoE, ride as that was one of the original Epcot rides I remember enjoying as a child. But it sorely needed to be updated. So, I’m looking forward to this new addition. Bring it on, as they say.
Hi Jen!
I haven’t ridden the Mission Breakout ride, but I’m sure Disney did a great job. I just really like the theming in ToT and would be sad to see it go. I agree that UoE was in need of an update and I’m so excited to see a roller coaster coming to Epcot. 🙂
We are very excited for a new roller coaster ride at Epcot!! Totally agree that UofE needed to be replaced. The best part of that ride was the first ten minutes with the dinosaurs.
