There was one announcement for Hollywood Studios at this year’s D23 event. It’s a good one though, because Disney shared more information about what’s coming to Monstropolis.
The discussion of about Monstropolis gave us a little more insight as to what is coming to the new area when it opens. There will be some entertainment venues, shops, and multiple dining options for guests to experience.
Entertainment
First, guests will be able to attend the show, “Welcome to Monstropolis,” at the Glob Theater. Of course, Mike and Sulley will be the hosts and all the monsters in the show will introduce humans to their city. Disney Legend, Randy Newman, has written a song for this show, aptly titled “Welcome to Monstropolis.”

At the Monsters University Alumni Club, guests can check out all the student clubs, fraternities, and sororities the school has to offer. Guests can even see the Scarer’s Club and see who made the cut as legendary scarers from past years.
Shopping
The Scareporium is where guests will go for fun souvenirs from their day in Monstropolis. There weren’t any other details on the Scareporium released yet, but I’m sure more will be coming soon. One thing is for sure, there will be plenty of monster themed merchandise for guests to see and purchase.
Dining
Looking to grab a slice while in Monstropolis? Then head over to Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza. Archie will look familiar to fans of the Monsters University movie, he was Fear Tech’s mascot. It’s nice that a pizza place is coming to this area, since PizzeRizzo closed permanently to make room for this new addition to the park. It’s way too soon for a menu to be available, but I’m sure they will have fun coming up with names for the food that will be on the menu.
The dining location Monsters Inc. fans are really excited for is Harryhausen’s Restaurant. This is from the first movie when Mike and Celia had a date that went completely off the rails. They’re even making an audio-animatronic of Harryhausen who will be preparing dishes with his many tentacles. That is going to be pretty cool to see in person. While there will be sushi on the menu, that is not the only thing. So, if you’re not a sushi fan don’t worry, there will be other options on the menu.

When guests visit Monstropolis they will be visiting during H.U.M.A.N. Day. That stands for “Humans Understanding Monsters Are Nice.” This will be a celebration and a cultural exchange between the monster world and the human world. Guests will get to explore the city and meet citizens of Monstropolis.

While I am missing the Muppets area (as I’m sure other people are), I’m also excited to see this new section of the park. It sounds like there is going to be quite a bit to see and experience. There isn’t an exact opening date, but it’s expected to open sometime in 2027.
Are you excited to explore Monstropolis once it’s open?
Thanks for reading!
Liz
