Lots of changes and updates to procedures have been happening as Disney World starts its first reopening phase. One of the latest changes involves the Magical Express and luggage pickup.
For years, guests have been able to sign up for pickup with the Magical Express when they fly into Orlando International Airport. The transportation service is complimentary for those staying on property, which is a nice perk of staying at a Disney World hotel. Another perk with that service was the luggage pickup. Your luggage would be picked up at the carousel for you and brought directly to your room. So guests could go straight from their airplane to the Magical Express to their hotel room. However, the luggage pickup will soon no longer be available.
Beginning July 16, 2020 the complimentary luggage pickup service from the airport will no longer be offered to guests. The Magical Express complimentary transportation is still available, but guests will have to pick up checked bags before boarding the bus. Disney stated they will be contacting guests who are signed up for the Magical Express service to inform them of the change.
The luggage pickup is definitely a nice perk that comes along with booking a Walt Disney World Resort hotel stay, but I’m guessing this change is a result of the recent closure. At least we still have the Magical Express to transport us to the hotel and the airport.
Another change noted is that the resort airline check-in will not be offered at this time. Not sure if this one is a permanent decision or just a “for now” situation. I will update as more information is released.
Despite the complimentary luggage pickup ending, some other luggage services will remain. Disney will still store luggage and assist you to bring it to your hotel room. So if you get to the hotel before your room is ready, you can still leave it with them and go enjoy the parks.

Hello Liz hope your doing well,I hope that this luggage issue is just for a short time one of the wonderful perks of the magical express is that when you leave home you don’t have to see your luggage until you are actually on the Disney property.I believe that Disney is taking this a little to far.I am a Dvc member so I’m staying at the resort but what’s to stop people from just going to other hotels outside the property where the rooms are less money?Also the price for the annual pass is the same but you can’t park hop?I understand revenue is important but universal studios are looking a little brighter .Also I understand that the main pool is not open to guests at many select hotels because of the basketball teams?I been going to Disney World for over 40 years and I think Disney corporate should start and go back and realize what Walt Disney was all about!! From what I understand, and what people have been told by CMs, the ending of luggage pickup will be permanent. A fellow travel agent traveled to Disney within the last couple of weeks and they were not given the option for luggage pickup. They were also told that it didn’t seem like this option would be made available again. Of course, things can always change, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s a perk that returns at some point.
Park Hopping is back on for 2021, so that’s good. As of right now, it doesn’t look like Park Hopping will return for 2020. And, yes, I know at least the Beach and Yacht Club pool is closed for guests due to the NBA staying there. From what I have heard, they are asking guests to use the BoardWalk Inn pool. Not sure about other pools though.
How can park hopping be back on for 2021 if you have to have a reservation for one park only? Is this after the September 26, 2021 mark.
No, it starts in January 2021. I’ve gone on Disney’s website just to double check and when I choose the 2021 ticket option it lets you add the Park Hopper option for all dates in 2021.
