I love Wildlife Wednesday on Disney Parks Blog! Their Wildlife Wednesday is what inspired this weekly tip. This week’s tip is about an area that doesn’t get as much foot traffic as other parts of the park, but there is good reason to check it out. Don’t miss it on your next Animal Kingdom visit!
Disney is very into protecting wildlife and it shows whenever you visit Animal Kingdom. Just take the Wildlife Express Train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and you will see. I know a lot of people think Animal Kingdom is just a big zoo, at least those that have never been there, but it’s not , trust me. So, here are a some of the things you will see when you visit Rafiki’s Planet watch.
Rafiki Guiding You to Rafiki’s Planet Watch
Affection Section – This is a petting zoo where kids can get up close with some animals, including goats and sheep. Everyone, including the adults, had fun in this area on our last trip. It’s always fun getting to pet animals you don’t normally see up close.

Habitat Habit! – Here you can see the world’s most endangered primates, the cotton-top tamarins. This area will also help people understand what they can do to help save endangered species.
Conservation Station (where all this is located) also lets you peek behind the scenes with many different fun and educational areas:
Science Center – Where you can watch the scientists who are working to help animals all over the world.
Nutrition Center – This area the kids will probably love, because it’s all about what and how much animals eat. You can watch the meals being prepared for animals in the park and it really is interesting to see the diets of all these creatures.
Animal Encounter Stage – This was a lot of fun. We saw this show on the day that we went to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and not only was it entertaining, but we learned something from it too. Plus, at the end of the show, the handler allowed the kids to come up and pet both the animals that were in the show. The kids loved that, they thought it was so cool!
Veterinary Treatment Room – This was interesting, because you are able to see through a very big window and watch the veterinarians give hands on care to some of the animals in the park. The window is huge, so there is plenty of space to watch.
These are just a few examples of what Rafiki’s Planet Watch has to offer. Yes, there are animals, but Animal Kingdom is so much more than just a zoo. Rafiki’s Planet Watch is only one section of this park, but it’s a pretty important section. Due to it’s remote location, Rafiki’s Planet Watch doesn’t always get the traffic it should. It’s just a train ride away, check it out on your next visit to Animal Kingdom!
