A passenger, who was killed yesterday on an Orlando International Airport tram, has been identified.
According to Local 6, Adam Thomas Lee was thrown through the tram windshield when it came to an abrupt stop. He fell about 15 feet to the ground.
The tram is usually automated, but was being manually run yesterday morning as part of a routine inspection. Passengers are not supposed to be on the tram when they are being run in manual mode, but the passengers were invited on the tram by one of the employees.
Local 6 reports that Lee was allowed to operate the tram while it was in maintenance mode and while in that mode the tram will automatically stop if it is not being controlled.
So when Lee took his hand off the controlls, the tram’s emergency brakes engaged and the force of the stop propelled him through the windshield. The employee who allowed Lee to handle the tram controls has since had their security badge turned back to authorities.
The investigation is ongoing.
