Disney announced they are delaying the registration for some of the upcoming races. Two big race weekends are included in the delay.
The runDisney events are very popular and sell out soon after registration opens. Many of the runners are repeat participants, because the Disney races are different than others. The half marathon and marathon courses bring guests through the castle! Plus, there are Disney characters to meet along the way.
Marathon Weekend is Disney’s biggest race event and it is included in the delayed registration. It takes place during the first weekend in January, starting on a Thursday and ending Sunday. It’s truly an experience and one that a lot of guests look forward to every year.
Marathon Weekend is a very popular race weekend. On the day when registration opens, people are usually online waiting for it to open. Guests were preparing to do this in the coming days for Marathon Weekend, until they found out about the delay.
UPDATE REGARDING REGISTRATION DATES. We are working to create a more streamlined race registration experience for runDisney participants. As a result, registration for the 2018-19 Walt Disney World race event weekends will be temporarily delayed; however, all races are still scheduled for this season as planned. Registration for this summer’s Virtual Running Shorts Series and the June 5K will open on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at noon ET. We apologize for the delay and will have more information to share on June 1 regarding registration for all remaining races.
As it is stated above from Disney, registration for the Virtual Running Shorts Series will still open Thursday, April 12 at noon, but we won’t know about the other races until June 1. The good news is Disney said that “all the races are still scheduled for this season as planned.” So the races will take place, everyone will just have to wait a bit longer to register.
We will keep you posted as more information is release.
