Starting tomorrow (November 3, 2020) Disney World is changing how they handle the virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. This is one of Disney’s newest and most popular rides.
Right now, guests must be scanned into the park in order to try for a spot in the virtual queue. People get to the park early to make sure they are inside the park. This way they are ready to go the second the virtual queue opens. This made it difficult for people who could not get to the park that early. Well, that is about to change.
Starting tomorrow guests who have a valid ticket or annual pass and a Disney Park Pass reservation for Hollywood Studios will be able to get into the virtual queue starting at 7 a.m. on the day of their park reservation. They can now do this from their Disney World Resort hotel or somewhere else nearby, instead of having to be inside the park. This will make it much easier for a lot of people to get chance to grab a spot in the virtual queue. Disney is also keeping the 2 p.m. reopening of the virtual queue. So if you don’t get in at 7 a.m. you can try again at 2 p.m. from inside the park (you must be inside Hollywood Studios for this virtual queue time).
Disney is trying to get more people on the ride to help more people experience the ride. They have added a clear barrier between the rows of seats on the vehicles. This way they can try to maximize the number of boarding groups they can accommodate, while adhering to the health and safety guidelines.
The virtual queue is only accessible on the My Disney Experience app, which needs to be downloaded ahead of time. Also, the entire party needs to be linked to the same account, so everyone in the party will get the same time slot. Once the party is linked you are ready to try for a spot in the virtual queue when it opens. Good luck and have fun!
